The Norris Family - Tasmania said...

Hi James,

I am in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia and am a novice to DSLR. I have purchased a Nikon D60 (I was able to buy it at a good price) and having a ball with it. My son, almost 15, would like a DSLR, and I am considering a Nikon D40, as I have found one used (1400 shutter uses. I feel this is the ideal camera for another novice.

I am aware both use the same lens, but was wondering, does the VR on the D60 lens work when on the D40? I cannot see why it wouldn't. Part of the reason for a D40, is to save on multiple lens. I cannot see a point in 2 of each type of lens. I have the 18-55, 55-200 and have just purchased a 55-300 and 2X tele convertor. Hence, i see it that he should be able to use all and any of these. I was just wondering if the VR will work with either body.

Great write up on the comparison of the two, it was great information that made it make a lot more sense.
